Privacy Policybitconverter browser extension

bitconverter ("the Extension") is developed and maintained by tility labs ("we", "our", "us"). Our goal is simple: help users view currency prices on any website in Bitcoin (BTC) or satoshis (sats). We take your privacy seriously and keep data collection to an absolute minimum.

1. Information we collect

• Page‑scan processing (local only). To locate currency prices, the Extension's content script briefly reads visible text on each webpage. This processing happens entirely in your browser; the data is not stored or transmitted.
• No personal data. The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, email addresses, account details, or browsing history.
• Local settings. User preferences (e.g., BTC vs sats, refresh interval) are saved locally using the Chrome storage API and never leave your device.
• Price look‑ups. To convert fiat amounts to Bitcoin, the Extension fetches the current BTC‑USD exchange rate from the public CoinGecko API (https://api.coingecko.com). Only the request for the latest price is sent; no page content or user identifiers are included.
• Error logs. Non‑identifying runtime errors (e.g., network failures) may be logged to the browser console for debugging. These logs are not transmitted to tility labs.

2. How we use information

The limited information described above is used solely to:

• Perform live currency conversion on the page you are viewing.
• Remember your extension settings between browser sessions.

We do not sell, rent, or share data with third parties.

3. Third‑party services

The Extension connects only to:

• CoinGecko API – to retrieve the latest Bitcoin price.

4. Permissions explained

Permission	Purpose
Content script (<all_urls>)	Enables bitconverter to scan every page you visit for currency amounts and annotate them locally. No page content is transmitted off your device.
activeTab	Allows bitconverter to read text on the active tab so it can identify fiat prices and display BTC equivalents. Data is processed entirely in your browser.
storage	Saves your extension options locally.
https://api.coingecko.com/*	Lets the Extension request the latest BTC price from CoinGecko.

5. Security

All requests to CoinGecko are made over secure HTTPS. No other external connections are made. Because we collect no personal data, the risk surface is minimal; however we routinely review and update the code to address potential vulnerabilities.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Extension evolves. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Significant changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
